Product Information

Herron Vita-minis Vitamin C Plus is a delicious orange flavoured Vitamin C supplement.

Vitamin C is a water-soluble vitamin and is not stored in the body in large amounts. Daily supplementation can provide nutritional support, help maintain optimum health in growing children and bridge potential dietary deficits.

Vitamin C has been shown to play a critical role in helping to build healthy gums, connective tissue and cartilage. It is involved in immune function, assists wound healing and can enhance the absorption of iron from foods such as grains and vegetables.

Vita-minis Vitamin C Plus provides more than double the Australian recommended dietary intake of Vitamin C for children from 2 to 11 years in just one tablet.

It has been specially formulated using a buffered form of Vitamin C that is gentle on the stomach and is sugar free and tooth friendly. It also contains Bioflavonoids extracted from citrus fruits to assist in the absorption of Vitamin C from the gastrointestinal tract.

Overview

Contains a combination of calcium ascorbate and bioflavonids. Calcium ascorbate is a less acidic form of ascorbic acid. Bioflavonoids are a general group of vitamins known as vitamin P. Bioflavonoids include hesperidin, rutin, citrus bioflavonoids and others. Vitamin C and bioflavonoids are usually found together in nature and they work together to enhance naturally each other's effectiveness.

Why take a Vita-mini Vitamin C Plus?

Vitamin C is a water-soluble vitamin stored in the body in very small amounts and so needs to be consumed daily. Children consuming a diet containing mainly processed or prepared foods may not ingest their Recommended Dietary Intake (RDI) of 30mg for this nutrient.

Vitamin C is found in fresh fruits and vegetables, especially citrus fruit, tomatoes, capsicum and green leafy vegetables. A vitamin C deficiency produces symptoms of scurvy such as poor wound healing, bleeding gums and increased likelihood of infection.

The RDI figure is based on the amount of vitamin C that would be required to prevent scurvy. However, evidence shows that a higher dose of vitamin C, above the RDI, has a therapeutic effect that will reduce the severity and duration of symptoms of colds and flu. Vitamin C is important for growing children as it aids the absorption of iron and calcium.

The combination of bioflavonoids with vitamin C results in a number of synergistic effects. Both nutrients are required for collagen production. A deficiency in these nutrients produces symptoms in collagen tissues such as poor wound healing of the skin, poor blood circulation and poor health of the capillaries.

Vitamin C and bioflavonoids are well known anti-oxidants that help to protect against free radical damage. Free radicals are chemically unstable molecules that can be generated by normal metabolism or by lifestyle factors such as excess dietary fats, pollutants and stress. Anti-oxidants help to counteract the effects of free radicals and oxidation in the body.

Numerous studies have shown that the combination of bioflavonoids and vitamin C act to reduce the severity and symptoms of colds and flu, sore throats and mild respiratory ailments and infections.
