What's It For?
Milk thistle is hepatoprotective and supports regeneration of liver cells. Also used as a detoxifying agent and aids normal liver function.
Active Ingredients Per Tablet:
Silybum marianum (Milk Thistle) extract
equivalent to dry fruit 7 g
standardised to contain flavanolignans 84 mg.

Mode of Action:
Milk Thistle has a protective effect on cell membranes due to its strong antioxidant and free radical scavenging action. It assists in detoxification processes in the liver by increasing the activity of super oxide dismutase and glutathione peroxidase and by conserving reduced glutathione. Research has endorsed the use of Milk Thistle in the treatment of liver intoxication, however it is more commonly indicated to relieve symptoms of sluggish digestive or liver function (for example inability to digest fats or alcohol).
The main active constituents of Milk Thistle are a complex of flavanolignans which are collectively known as silymarin, and include silybin, silydianin and silychristin. Silymarin stimulates manufacture of protein in the liver, resulting in an increased production and regeneration of new liver cells replacing old and damaged cells.
Contraindications and Cautions:

May occasionally cause a mild laxative effect.

A small, light yellow, capsule shaped tablet with opaque coating.
Dosage:
Adults - Take one tablet three times daily before meals, or as professionally prescribed. Drink 6 - 8 glasses of water a day whilst using this product.
Children (under 12 years) - As professionally prescribed.
