Directions for use without water: Apply a liberal amount of cleanser to the skin and rub gently. Remove excess with a soft cloth, leaving a thin film on the skin. Directions for use with water: Apply cleanser to the skin and rub gently. Rinse.

Terrible smell
This new version is awful. The smell is highly unpleasant and I'm surprised no one at the company picked this up. The sense of smell is a powerful one and an instant arbiter of purchasing decisions. The smell is so bad that I will switch to another product even though I've used Cetaphil for more than 20 years.

Gentle and safe for irritated, sensitive skin
This product is targeted for sensitive, irritated skin and is sometimes recommended by dermatologists. It is a non-foaming wash-off cleanser without any fragrance or SLS. It is indeed very gentle but don't expect it to remove stubborn waterproof sunscreen or make-up. However, it is safe to use if you are having a flare-up or your skin feels irritated. It doesn't dry out your skin or leave a stripping feeling. It is reasonably-priced and comes in various sizes up to 1L if you want to use it on your body as well.
Personally I prefer to use Cerave's range of cleansers for the face which are more effective and just as gentle.

Unpleasant smell
Yep like the other reviews I do not like the new formula it smells like paraffin! Please bring back the regular cleanser as been using that for 20+ years with no issue. I'm not recommending this product anymore which is such a shame.

Worst Product I Ever Used
I bought this product over a month ago as my skin goes dry in winter and I am an eczema sufferer. I've been using this product every night for two weeks straight and now my whole face is white and flakey and peeling all over the place. I purchased this to ensure all the moisture wouldn't be removed out of my skin when cleansing every night. I now have uncontrollable flakes all over my face and my skin for the most part is extraordinarily oily it doesn't make sense. Throwing this product straight in the bin.. My face has never been this bad even using cheap supermarket face wash....

Does Galderma not listen to customers?
Is Galderma considering changing the formula back to the original after so so many complaints? I cannot find anything to wash my face with, surely as a company you realise the mistake of changing the formula? I used to rave about Cetaphil and it's just so bad now, its a shame that there is no listening to the very clear complaints. Disappointed.

Cetaphil too simple a cleanser to suit my skin
When I first started using Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser a few years ago, I was really happy with it. Since then, I've tried other products and gotten fussier with the results I expect and have learnt a lot more about skincare products and have found that Cetaphil is a very simple cleanser. Its perfect for children and those with problem free skin. My skin needs a little more oompha. I have pimple prone skin so I need something that will give it a deeper cleanse and Cetaphil just doesn't do the job. Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser is suitable for washing the face on a makeup/sunscreen day and suitable for sensitive skin. I'll probably finish off using it as a shower gel but will buy something different next time.

Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This Gentle Skin Cleanser worked well for my sensitive skin. It cleanses and moisturised my face and body, leaving it feeling clean and soft.
I found that my skin retained moisture well, without stripping it dry. It's non-comedogenic, meaning it won't block your pores, and it also won't sting your eyes. A great cleanser for all skin types. The only thing I didn't love was that it didn't foam up at all. This doesn't detract from the effectiveness of the product, it's just something I prefer when using a cleanser.

Formula change has ruined the Gentle Skin Cleanse!
I have been using Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser for almost 30 years and loved it. It was my most loved product and stood the test of time. So why on earth would you change the ingredients (just to make it vegan?) and not advise on the product you have done so! My skin used to be so moist and soft after using your product, now it’s dry, red, tight and itchy.. all the things you claim your product isn’t! If you sort these reviews by lowest to highest you’ll see many other reviews confirming the same info.. very disappointed and will not be purchasing ever again.

New formula
Had been using the old formula from the age of 15 till the new one came out and so did my whole family and extended family. Then I had to buy the new formula like everyone else just thinking the packaging had changed. I broke out in a rash on my face that consisted of dryness/ redness and little bumps. If you have a reaction to the new formula you aren’t the only one. Wouldn’t recommend the new product was a waste of product and money. But I did recommend the old formula to everyone. Please bring it back.

Simple and effective
I have recently started to get more into uaing soap-free products ans picked this cleanser up at Chemist Warehouse. It is quite gentle but I feel it cleans my skin quite well.
It does not irritate my skin at all and I enjoy it knowing it has no soap, fragrance and nasties. It serves it’s purpose and is super affordable and you get so much product it is definetly great value for money.
One bottle of this will last me ages. Overall, I am very happy with this product and will continue to purchase it.

Great ingredients and fragrance free
Thank you Cetaphil for this new and improved formula. I personally love that is has minimal and only essential ingredients a cleanser should have, and it's fragrance free for my sensitive skin. It's nice and creamy that leaves my skin clean without the tight feel. I use it for my face and body (bought the 1.25L bottle). Please never discontinue this product or change the formula. Out of all the gentle cleanser out there, i truely recommend this one.

Immediately irritated red rash
I have used the gentle cetaphil cream cleanser for over 10 years. The recent “new and improved” is such a disappointment. One night following my usual routine I pumped the cream into my hands and began to rub onto my face. Immediately I felt a stinging and itchy sensation. Worried I washed off the cleanser but my face continued to sting and itch, and I devloped a red rash all over my face and neck. Cetaphil why did you have to change, you’ve lost this customer.

Bring back the old formula
I am so pleased to hear that I am not the only person that wants the old formula back. I too have used the old product for many years - 30+ years in fact and I am on my last pump pack. I have been desperately trying to find an alternate but nothing compares. I refuse to use the new one as it leaves a terrible residue. My skin has never been worse after using the new formula. PLEASE consider all the requests to return to the original formula - it was awesome.

Don't Use this New Formula
I've always used Cetaphil. This past week I got the new bottle and I've been wondering why my skin is so itchy, I have breakouts but my skin is dry and flaky and looks red. It was only tonight when I realised my reaction was from the Cetaphil. I have not used any other products on my face in the past week (no make up, haven't worn a mask etc). I've written a complaint to the company tonight. I always had nice skin before this garbage

Gentle skin cleanser makes my eyes sting
I am disappointed with the new formulation for the Cetaphil gentle cleanser. I have used Cetaphil gentle for many years and always found it to be exactly as described. On my first use of the new formulation my eyes stung and my skin felt hot and uncomfortable. I have repeated use to check on this reaction and it has continued. I will be forced to find a new cleansing product as I do not wish to use this product again.

Terrible new formula - Bring back the OLD formula
Cetaphil, you have officially ruined the formula which once worked so well.
I purchased the product under the impression that the packaging had just been changed and not the formula (this is misleading), however I was wrong. The new formula is potent, smells like plastic and dries out the skin. It left my skin red and dry, I have heard of worse reactions from others. Galderma, I understand that you are trying to conform to beauty product standards in trying to be 'clean', but this is not the way to do it. You are forgetting who your target market is, people with SENSITIVE skin. By adding triggering and irritating ingredients such as niacinamide and sodium benzoate you are dishonouring your customer base. Say goodbye to your loyal customers and good luck using this ridiculous marketing strategy to try and entice new customers, you will need it.

Face turned red and feels like it’s burning
I had used Cetaphil’s facial cleaner for years and went ahead and bought 1.25L bottle of this cleanser since I couldn’t find the old packaging and thought it would be the same. In less than 5 min of using it my face started stinging so I quickly washed it off but my face is now red from the side effects. This cleanser definitely is not “gentle” for the skin like the old formula.

Thousands are hating the new formula
Cetaphil, get it together. All across the internet people are talking about the horrible skin reactions they’re having to this “new and improved” formula. You had one of the most widespread, universally beloved products and you’ve ruined it. I’ve been using the gentle cleanser for years with no problem; This is my face after the new formula, burning. Buyer beware.

Disappointed after loving the previous formulation
I have reasonably sensitive skin and have been using cetaphil for the last 10 years and loved it. Was previously a fantastic product and reasonably priced, but I’ve had a significant allergic reaction with dry, red and itchy skin - particularly around my eyes. If you do try please be cautious of this! Not sure what to now do for my new face wash :((

Gave Me Spots
I used to use one of the Simple facewashes and had to buy Cetaphil's as I couldn't find the original one I used and so grabbed it on the go. Within a couple of days, it's made me breakout. I had clear skin and now have 7 new pimples - would not recommend. It also leaves a weird residue on the skin and doesn't feel like it actually cleans properly.

New formula is terrible
I have used Cetaphil gentle cleaner for many years. All of a sudden I have been getting a extremely red face and burning that lasts hours after using due to new formula. Looking online it appears many other people are having the same issue as me. Very disappointed as now I have to go on the journey to find a cleaner that won’t irritate my face.

Bring back the original
I have used the original Cetaphil Skin Cleanser for about 20 years and have loved it with absolutely no side effects though my skin is very sensitive. The new formula feels very sticky and occlusive, and whenever I have used it (which I no longer do) my skin becomes red, itchy, with blocked pores. Please bring back the original cleanser!

However I just bought the new updated version and my whole face was stinging and went bright red from one use. I am going to have to use something else from now because this is terrible for my skin. Please change it back to the old product.

Please bring back the original formula as this new cleanser strips the skin. I bought a bottle and it’s too harsh for sensitive skin. I wouldn’t even use it on my hands. I used your original cleanser for over 20 years. It was the only product I could use. on my skin. Devastating that it’s gone. Why change such a popular product.

New Formula is a Disaster!
I tried the new version cleanser twice, every time my face immediately flushed and stung, and my skin was very irritated. I used the old version for 8 years and never been in this situation before. I asked other girl friends and they all had the same feeling with me. Very disappointed by this upgrade. I will change to Cerave now.

Unhappy with new formula gentle skin cleanser
I needed to replenish my 1litre bottle and noticed the new design when I purchased a replacement. I didn’t realise the formula had also changed until I used it. The smell is unpleasant but after only 2x uses my skin was stinging, sore and sensitive. No other changes in my skincare products. Please please bring back the formula!
